UNE ResearchStrength College of Pharmacy awarded a $4 million highly competitive grant to initiate the pharmacy research agenda Four Centers of Excellence in Research and Scholarship and VP of Research in place Funded programs in neuroscience, marine science, gerontology, and public health Research funding has increased over 22% annually in five years

  13. Vision for Recruitment • Qualified students from Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont ~ UNE’s priority • Collaboration with workforce development leaders in tri-state region • Emphasis on developing northern New England pool of students for long-term pipeline of students into dental profession

  14. Clinical Education • Emphasis on northern New England clinical site placements • Distributive and collaborative • Utilizes strong partnerships with regional dental education leaders and advocates • Long-term placements for skilled fourth year students

  15. Clinical Site Development Process • Establish relationships with existing dental workforce development groups • Endowment for Health grant – focus on New Hampshire sites and student recruitment over next three years • Similar proposal pending for clinical development and recruitment in Maine • Clinical site visits expected to begin 2010

COMING SOON: • Student recruitment effort in Maine’s rural high schools using simulators to interest students in dental education – funding received • Program will include a three-day summer program for rural high school students on campus • Partnering with Franklin County Summer Scrub Club Camp as part of this program

  17. “Home Town” Recruitment • Communities encouraged to “grow your own” dentist • Local clinics/communities will be key to recruitment by selecting and nominating a mission-driven student to UNE’s dental school • Community nominations will be key to winning a seat • Stay tuned, more to come!
