  2. MICROSOFT WINDOWS Windows is a most popular G.U.I. type operating system among all operating system recently used. Advantages • Windows is a user friendly Operating System. • Windows is a Multi tasking operating System. • Windows is a Multi user operating System. • Windows is a device independent operating System. • Windows is a Graphical User Interface.

  3. Parts of GUI • Mouse:- It is a pointing device. It is used to point out an object and to strike it. • On screen Menus:- Menus are show/hide on screen with the aid of Mouse or Keyboard. It can be activated by Alt key of Keyboard or by just clicking on it by Mouse. • Windows:- All applications are graphically shown by different windows. • Icon:- It is a graphical representation of files, directories, commands, tools etc.

  4. Right click Left click • Click:- After pointing out, the object can be accessed by clicking left or right click of mouse. • Right&Left click:- After selection, right button of mouse can be used to open shortcuts available for that object and left button is used for regular application. MOUSE • Pointing:- Any object can be selected or accessed by moving mouse to it. • Drag&Drop:- After selecting any object, without releasing mouse button it can be drag to any position and can be dropped anywhere by releasing mouse button.

  5. Scrolling:- Vertical scroll bar of windows can be easily scrolled with this scroll wheel. This wheel is used in different manner in different applications. Scroll wheel MOUSE • Double clicking:- Left button is consequently pressed two times to access the object after pointing out that object.

  7. WINDOWS TERMINOLOGY • Title bar:- The uppermost first bar of window is title bar. Application title, control menu and control buttons are parts of this bar. • Menu bar:- It is a bar below the title bar contains different menus of different commands and options. • Tool bar:- This bar contains different icons used to access different commands. • Rulers:- Horizontal and Vertical rulers are provided for guidance of dimensions. • Scroll bar:- Horizontal and Vertical scroll bars are provided to scroll the window.

  8. Dialogue box:- This box is displayed when some command needs extra settings or information. Dialogue Box Command Buttons • Command buttons:- Buttons provided in dialogue box to execute commands. WINDOWS TERMINOLOGY • Task bar:- The lower most part of desktop, which can be on top of window or auto hidden. • Status bar:- It is lower most bar of window which shows the status of cursor and different settings every time during the work.

  9. My documents:- This is a system folder in which all files created in any application are saved by default. File management can be done in this folder. • My computer:- This folder displays all the drive the computer has. File management can be done in these drives also. • Recycle Bin:- Files or folders which are deleted stored in this folder. Which can be restored whenever required back. DESKTOP ICONS

  10. My Network Places:- This is a system folder through which user can enter in a network or make new connection. Network interface card can be configured by this icon. • Internet Explorer:- This is a window’s component through which user can access internet. Internet options can be set by properties of this icon. • Start Menu:- This button is placed on start menu. It is a standard menu to access all the applications installed to your computer.   11. DESKTOP PROPERTIES • Desktop:- This is a background picture of a desktop. Which can be applied by selecting background stock of windows or can be browsed to select from another source. It can be positioned to tile, center or stretched. • Screen saver:- This tab is used to save screen voltage when computer remains idle for stipulated time. Moving pictures or design is displayed during this time.

  12. DESKTOP PROPERTIES • Appearance:- This tab is used to change the look out of windows components. Different colors, design and effects can be set by this option. • Settings:- This tab is used to set screen resolution and color quality. Color adapter driver can also be changed by this option.

  13. CONTROL PANEL Control panel is a system folder which can be used to control hardware and software installed in computer. It can be start by clicking setting option in start menu. • Add new hardware:- With the use of this control panel option, user can add new hardware to their computer. A wizard helps user to scan for new hardware. However, windows - xp is used to scan automatically as new hardware are attached.

  14. CONTROL PANEL • Add/Remove Programse:- With the use of this control panel option, user can add new software or remove installed software. Windows components can also be added or removed by this option. • Fonts:- This option is used to add new fonts in stock and to copy fonts which are exist in our computer.

  15. Run:- Used to execute any application. • Help and Support:- Used for helping and trouble shooting. • Search:- Used to search files, folders, peoples, internet files etc. • Setting:- Used to set control panel, task bar, network connection etc. • Documents:- Used to access recently opened documents directly. • Documents:- Used to access any application installed in computer.
