  10. FROM SMILES TO SMILES WITH CAREs • SMILES with CAREs was initially known as SMILES from 2007 to 2011. - Smile and greet - Move in line - Impress with good discipline - Let’s respect one another - Engage in learning - Stand firm for what is right

  12. IMPLEMENTATION • The programme is carried out every term in week 2 • Focus on different school values • Use P1 to P6 recess as a platform to carry out the games • CCE Champions (students) will manage the game stations

  13. ACTIVITIES / GAMES Examples: • Poison Ball • Rolling the ball using one’s thighs • Pass the Hula Hoop • Building a pyramid using cards

  16. VIDEO CLIPS • Video clips are shown every Monday morning and afternoon during pre-assembly • CCE department will emphasise on the values and social-emotional competencies via the video clips • Students will reflect on the values

  18. SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING THROUGH GROUP INTERACTION Started off with a game corner

  19. GAMES CORNER TO STUDENT EDUTAINMENT LOUNGE • Set up the Student Edutainment Lounge • Allows students to play board games, study and relax • Students are able to play exclusive games such as Wii, Kinect and Fussball when they present a Golden Ticket

  20. STUDENT EDUTAINMENT LOUNGE Opening hours: 11.00am – 12.00pm and 1.30 – 5.00 pm

  22. GOLDEN TICKET • 3 Golden Tickets are given to every teacher • Teachers will give the tickets to any deserving students displaying the school values and social-emotional competencies • Students with Golden Tickets can play exclusive games

IMPACT • Students are engaged in purposeful activities which are fun-based • Students come forward to volunteer their time and services for their peers (contributors and leaders) • Improvement on the social-emotional competencies through teachers’ observation • Builds a positive teacher-student relationship (TSR)

  25. CHALLENGES • Peak period (1.30pm – 2pm) leading to unavailability of game stations • Sustaining manpower manning the lounge

  26. MOVING FORWARD • Increase in volunteerism and participation rate amongst students, parents during non-curriculum time • Increase resources • Infuse the Habits of Mind (HOM) • Increase the issuing of the Golden Tickets
