  3. Action PLAN Content • Background information • Products • Purpose • Goal and objectives • Actions • Milestones • Criteria of success

  4. Background • Uganda Crop Industries is a family-owned entrepreneurial enterprise founded in 1993. A diversified Organic Certified agricultural concern, we are firmly grounded in Uganda’s thriving private sector, with a long term commitment to developing sound, sustainable, and commercially viable agriculture businesses in the country, in partnership with small farmers, local and international public bodies, other private Ugandan enterprises, and our worldwide clientele. • We believe in producing natural products of the highest quality, in a manner that exceeds our customers’ expectations, preserves the environment, and benefits all of our stakeholders. Our key goals are to ensure a growing and satisfied customer base worldwide; to contribute meaningfully to the progress and development of the farmers and communities we work with; and thereby, to ensure a fair and sustainable profit for our company. . We are also very much aware that we operate in competitive, globalised and volatile markets. therefore, we aim to attract and keep our global clientele through uncompromising product quality; prompt, reliable delivery; and fair, transparent, honest dealing.

  5. Products 1, Vanilla :- • Since 1995, Uganda Crop Industries has been at the leading edge of the vanilla industry’s development in Uganda, exporting up to 40 to 60 percent of the country’s production each year. We are the only major organic vanilla exporter in Uganda to be fully integrated from field to market, with our complete in-house curing facility, our own plantation of approximately 14 hectares, and our network of some 3,000 small farmers who grow and supply to us their crop. As a result, we are able to provide our worldwide clientele with regular and reliable supply, uncompromising quality, and attractive pricing on superior vanillas – for retail, gourmet, food-service, and extraction uses.

  6. 2, Cardamom & other spices • Uganda Crop Industries has taken the lead in establishing a cardamom and spices industry in Uganda. The cardamom plant flourishes under Ugandan conditions, and produces high yields and a top-grade final product with elevated concentrations of flavour, aroma and essential oils. Other spices – black pepper, cinnamon, cloves – also thrive in Uganda. We have a vision to establish a whole new agricultural industry in Uganda around cardamom and other spices, with the collaboration of our 3,000 small farmers. • The contribution our spices program makes to Uganda's rural development has been acknowledged by support from USAID, Danida, Cordaid , NAADS the Uganda government, and others. Our future plans are to expand this development model to embrace new products, including dried fruits and honey. As our work with smallholder farmers progresses, Uganda Crop Industries is in an ideal position to offer a range of high-grade cardamom and spice products to a client base around the globe.

  7. 3, Natural Sugar , Timber & Compost • In addition to high-end export products which are shipped around the globe, Uganda Crop Industries also produces products for the local and regional markets. These products include chemicals free brawn sugar and sugar by-products from our sugar cane fields; timber from our managed forests; and organic compost from our livestock operations. In these activities as well, we involve our small farmers: by buying from them sugar cane and raw timber; by providing organic compost and improved varieties of cane; by encouraging them to expand forested areas and providing them with tree seedlings; and by training them on field practices and forest management .
