  1. Lesson Objectives To learn how to apply texture to a drawing to give an idea of the material an object is made from. • Success Criteria • Must • Be able to show an understanding of how to render plastic texture and tone onto the organ case. • Should • Have applied a background and thick and thin line techniques to your sheet to show that the case is resting on a surface. • Could • Have begun to draw up a background to mount your work on • Have drilled your PCB. • Homework • Finish off the rendering of your plastic keyboard. On a separate sheet draw the background. Carefully cut out the keyboard and mount onto the background.

  2. A QUICK warm up task. 1.Draw a cube (5x5x5 cm) using the isometric grid. 2.Indicate the light source. 3.Using a bright primary colour shade the surfaces using light, medium and dark tones. Don’t forget to… Include a 10mm border. Put your name on. Include a title “Rendering”.

  3. A QUICK warm up task. Light. A. Light C. Medium. B. Dark. Name:

  4. Light. Light. A. Light E. D. Medium Dark C. Medium. B. Dark.

  5. Things to remember when rendering. Always use a sharp pencil. Shade with the pencil at a flat angle. Render in a diagonal direction. Build up the colour in layers. Leave white areas for the shiny highlights. Use three tones. Light, Medium and Dark.

  6. Light. How can I apply the rendering skill I have learned? Which surfaces will be light ,medium and dark? How will the rendering technique change for the different angled surfaces?

  7. Rendering the plastic keyboard. Indicate where is the light coming from. Identify what surfaces will be light, medium and dark. Leave the highlighted areas white. Use a sharp pencil at a flat angle. Render in a diagonal direction. Build up the colour in layers. Add the thick and thin line technique.

  8. Applying your skills… Your case is not floating in mid air. Render a surface for it to rest on.

  9. Homework. On a separate sheet of paper draw a horizon line. Apply a surface render to the area below the horizon line. Carefully cut out the rendered keyboard and mount it on to the background. Don’t forget to… Include a 10mm border. Put your name on. Include a title “Rendering”.

  10. What have you learned today?. sharp When rendering with coloured pencils it is important to use a _______ pencil. We shade with the pencil at a ______ angle and render in a __________ direction. To achieve a even shade we build up the colour in ______. The three tones we use are ______, _________ and ______. The areas that are left _______ represent the shiny ___________. The _______ and _____ line technique helps the object ______ ____ on the page. Adding a _____________ to the design stops the keyboard from looking like it is __________ in the air. flat diagonal layers light medium dark white highlights thin thick stand out background floating
