  3. Caring for your… Cat! • Facts about cats: • 8 million in the UK. • There are many breeds of cat. • Typically they live for about 14 years. • The needs of cats are similar to those of wild cats. Cats needs - • Diet: • Water regularly • Meat • Some human foods are poisonous to cats • Diet depends on age • Health and Welfare: • Cats feel pain like humans • Changes in behaviour maybe a sign a cat is ill or in pain • Company: • Cats prefer to choose their own company • Environment: • Shelter and warmth • Space to exercise • A place they feel safe Click to go back

Dogs needs - • Diet: • Water regularly • Dog food • Most human meals do not have enough nutrition in for dogs • Diet depends on age • Health and Welfare: • Changes in behaviour maybe a sign a dog is ill or in pain • Dogs can be trained using rewards to teach what behaviour is appropriate. • Company: • Dogs are sociable animals that prefer company. Caring for your… Rabbit! • Facts about rabbits: • Rabbits are the third most popular pet in the UK, behind dogs and cats. • There are many breeds of rabbit. • Typically they live for 8 – 12 years. • Their needs are complex and therefore they are hard to look after. Rabbits needs: • Diet: • Water regularly • Grass and plants • Some plants are poisonous to rabbits • Rabbits eat some of their own faeces, it is an essential part of their diet! • Health and Welfare: • Rabbits do not display pain well, a change in behaviour could indicate illness or pain. • Rabbits can easily catch diseases from wild rabbits. • Environment: • Shelter and warmth • Space to exercise • A place they feel safe • Company: • Rabbits usually prefer the company of other rabbits.
