  2. It is important to note that this system is a writing tool that is designed to help students strengthen their writing. • The score reports are not intended to replace the teacher and it is the teacher who can offer additional writing instruction and it is the teacher that has grading responsibility.

  3. Log on to my.hrw.com using the username and password given to you by your teacher. Every student has their own unique login information.

  4. Choose “Holt Online Essay Scoring.”

  5. Click “NEXT”

  6. Click on the essay type you are assigned to write.

  7. Click on the essay prompt you have chosen to write about.

  8. You may type your essay directly into the text box. Your teacher may instruct you to type your essay as a Word document first and then copy and paste it into the textbox.

  9. If your teacher asks you to compose your essay in a word document first, copy the entire essay and then paste it into the text box of the Holt Online Essay Scoring system.

  10. This is what your essay should look like once typed or pasted into the text box. Click on “Get Your Score” to submit your essay and see your score.

  11. Read your score report. If you are in need of revisions (every essay is in need of further revision), you will click on “Analytical Feedback” and “Writing Activities” to find out how to strengthen your essay.

  12. The information in the “Analytical Feedback” explains what your essay is lacking based on the rubric.

  13. The “Writing Activities” gives you specific tips for making your essay stronger.

  14. You can continue to re-submit your draft after making revisions based on the system’s suggestions until you have a strong essay.
