What are wastes

What are Wastes?

“substances or objects which are disposed of or are intended to be disposed of or are required to be disposed of by the provisions of the law”

  • Waste management is the collection, transport, processing, recyclingor disposal, and monitoring of waste materials

Sources of wastes

Sources of Wastes

Commerce and Industry

Sources of wastes1

Sources of Wastes

Classification of wastes according to their effects on human health and the environment

Classification of Wastes according totheir Effects on Human Health and the Environment

Hazardous wastes

wastes that possess substantial or potential threats to public health or the environment

not affect the environment or human health.

Waste management

Man- Made Factors that contribute to a worsening of environmental hazards

urbanization, industrialization, population growth.

Natural factors causing environmental hazards

physical such as volcanic activity , severe weather. biological, such as epidemic diseases. psychological or social.

Integrated solid waste management

Integrated solid waste management

Fundamental elements of a waste management system

Waste generation

Waste handling, separation, storage, and processing at the source

Solid waste collection

Separation and Processing and transformation of solid waste

Transfer and transport

Final disposal

Fundamental elements of a waste management system

Effects of poor waste management on health

Effects of poor waste management on health

  • Respiratory tract infections_ gases

  • Infectious diseases carried by flies, insects, cats

  • Allergy _odors

  • Digestive system problems _ water pollution ,plant poisoning

Waste management in palestine

waste management in Palestine

According to studies and statistics, the crisis of solid waste spread slowly in the Palestinian territories, in particular, and that

  • only 59% of the amount of solid waste generated daily in the West Bank up to the landfills

  • more than 88% burn , and thus contaminate the air, which threaten the daily lives of Palestinian citizens,

  • while the other relates to the common way to bury this waste

Dealing with hazardous waste

Dealing with hazardous waste

  • Industrial waste and medical contain the largest component of hazardous materials

  • Careful separation of hazardous wastes

  • Not mixing hazardous waste with municipal solid during the collection and disposal

  • Burn at very high temperature >1000 c

  • Dumping

Toxins found in health care waste

Toxins found in health-care waste

  • polyvinyl chloride (PVC), dioxins and furans

  • Long-term, low-level exposure >> impairment of immune, nervous, endocrine and reproductive functions.

  • Short-term, high-level exposure >>skin lesions and altered liver function.

  • The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifies dioxins as a "known human carcinogen

Waste management

Waste management

Waste management

Waste management
