Hardware and Software Setup

  • The Virtual Radar Program translates the common ADS-B message code from commercial airlines to a target position which the Weibel Radar can slave to

  • Once acquired the Radar can then automatically follow the airliner

  • Supplied with the Virtual Radar Program is one SBS-Receiver box with USB connection and antenna (the box is connected to the computer running the Virtual Radar Program)

  • To enable the Virtual Radar do the following

    • Start the Base Station Program and ensure correct operation with the SBS-Receiver

    • Start the Virtual Radar Program and verify that data is being supplied by the Base Station Program

    • Once the Virtual Radar is running proceed to setting up communication, positions and Master/Slave protocol with the RTP.

Virtual radar table and radar plot

Virtual Radar Table and Radar Plot

Using the Virtual Radar Tableinstead of the Mapfunctionsimply shows targets in a list format instead of the map.

Again if using the Radar Plot option the target are represented in this view instead of the map.

Which method is better is a question of the operators taste
