  2. IglesiaLaFamiliaCorporate Fast of 2012 • Our church will be participating in an international fasting movement in which we unite in a corporate fast at the start of the year. This is to set the atmosphere for the rest of the year by sacrificing to God the first three weeks of the year.

  3. 21-Day Journey FASTING

  4. What is Fasting? • Biblical Fasting- to refrain from food for a spiritual purpose - To separate yourself from your normal life and get intimate with God - To sharpen your spiritual edge - To discipline the flesh= tell it who’s boss

  5. The Spiritual Purpose of Fasting • A deeper more intimate relationship with God • Reveal God’s Calling in your life • Make a dream/vision become a reality • Activation of your ministry • An Answer from God • Financial Breakthrough • For a family member, friend, leader, etc • The salvation of a loved one • A Gift from God • Break Free from chains(negative attitudes, depression, bad habits, addiction, loneliness, lack of self control, etc.) that are holding you back • A fresh encounter or experience with God • Physical/Spiritual danger • Forgiveness • Deliverance • Spiritual Strength • Peace • Happiness • Transformation **These are only some of the few reasons to fast. The purpose of fasting is to humble the soul so that God maybring spiritual results.***

  17. Fasting Tips

  18. #1 Personalize Your FastJust like with offering, prayer, worship, or any spiritual activity, fasting must come from the heart of believer. There are serious guidelines to fasting but there are multiple ways to fast. It’s a relationship not religion.

  19. #2 Its Not All About FoodSacrificing food is only half of fasting. Remember this is for a spiritual purpose and to become intimate with God. Fasting is not a diet plan.

  20. #3 Fasting is not an External showSpeak of your fast only when you have to. It’s not a Competition. It is between you and God. (Matthew 6:16-18)

  21. # 4 Temptation is everywhere.Beware of your weakness and of people who try to persuade you to stop fasting. Entering your fast you must be conscious of what you are eating/drinking and doing. There will be stumbling blocks the devil will tryto use to make you fall because he knows of the power you are unleashing. *If possible, unplug all devices and systems you are not using and remove all food that is not acceptable in your fast.

  22. #5 Fasting is a lifestyle. Not just a Diet.Even when you may not be food fasting. You must constantly be in communion and walking with God. The devil will try to take advantage at any opportunity. Don’t Set Yourself Up For Failure.

  23. #6 Accidently Breaking Your FastIf you accidently break your fast by eating or eating something you shouldn’t have, do not be discouraged and give up on yourself. Just simply ask God for forgiveness and continue your fast. Remember food is just half of it. This is a spiritual journey with several unfortunate bumps in the road.

  24. #7 Have a Positive attitude. Don’t Stress.Be proud of your fast. Do not see it as a punishment. Stress can cause your body to want to eat more.

  25. # 8 Sacrifice wisely. Do not exceed your limit.Fasting is centered on sacrificing but do not reach a point of insanity especially if it is your first fast because it could lead to serious consequences with your health. Be Wise. (ex. Playing organized sports or taking medication that requires you to eat)

  26. #9 Reduce the amount of energy being used per day. Conserve Your EnergyEvery calorie consumed in a fast is important and needs to be used correctly. Do not waste energy on unnecessary tasks or activities. Take Time to Rest. (Your life should be focused on getting intimate with God.)

  27. #10 Beware of The Toxic HeadacheWhen you fast, your body detoxifies, eliminating toxins from your system. This can cause mild discomfort such as headaches and irritability during withdrawal from caffeine and sugars. And naturally, you will have hunger pains. But over time these symptoms fade as your body adjusts.

  28. #11 Establish Your Fasting areasIf anyone asks in your home, workplace, or school, explain to them that you are fasting. *Great Opportunity to Spread the Word

  29. #12 IF DOESN’T COST YOU, THEN IT’S NOT SACRIFICE. Don’t Doubt Yourself. Have Faith
