  1. How do people use hot deserts? In the lesson when you thought about desert survival you also thought about why people might go to the desert. Can you remember the reasons?

  2. Lesson objectives (for 3 lessons) • All students must be able to name three ways that deserts are used by humans • Most students should be able to explain how humans can use deserts to create renewable energy • Some students could explain how traditional uses of the desert can conflict with the modern uses of the desert

  3. STRIPE objective • Enquiring learner - Explore issues, events and problems from different points of view, including those of other people

  4. Getting started… • Watch the mini-movie about Mansour and Selwa, a Bedouin couple. • In a pair, decide what you would advise Mansour to do– should he move to Tunis to work, try to emigrate to Italy to work, or stay in the desert with his family?

  5. Should he stay or should he go? • Look at the relevant information sheet to find out what happened next in the story of Mansour and Selwa. • Decide if you chose the right option & complete the Desert Decision worksheet (individually) to explain your thoughts.

  6. Reflection… • Share your decision with another pair who made a different decision. • Which was the best decision to make? Why? • Would this always be the case, or could different people experience different situations? • Has this lesson helped you to see the desert from the view of the Bedouin? (STRIPE)

  7.
