  1. Multiplication arrays

  2. Multiplication Arrays • Array – a group of objects arranged in rows and columns • A rectangular array is an arrangement of objects in rows and columns. Each row has the same number of objects, and each column has the same number of objects. • A rectangular array can be represented by a multiplication number model } 6 * 3 = 18

  3. Multiplication Arrays • The some array can be organized in several different ways. • Rectangular arrays must have the same number in each row and the same number in each column. } 9 * 2 = 18 or 18 * 1 = 18

  4. Multiplication Arrays • Organizing a rectangular multiplication array , you can find the factors of a number. • How many different ways can you organize 36? Use the dot grid paper to show your work • 36 can be organized in the following arrays: 36 * 1 6 * 6 9 * 4 12 * 3 2 * 18 This is a square array

  5. Multiplication Arrays • 36 can be organized in the following arrays: 36 * 1 6 * 6 9 * 4 12 * 3 2 * 18 • These are the factors of 36 or all of the numbers that, when multiplied together, create the product of 36 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 36

  6. Multiplication Arrays • 36 can be organized in the following arrays: 36 * 1 6 * 6 9 * 4 12 * 3 2 * 18 This is a square array 6 { 6{

  7. Multiplication Arrays Square Arrays show you square numbers Square numbers can be written with an exponent 6² This means 6 times itself 2 times or 6 * 6 Use your dot grid paper to find more square arrays Write your array equation using exponential notation
