  7. ELEG310 • Title: Random Signals And Noise • Topics: Probability, Random Variables, Distributions, and Statistics • Prob/Stat from high school will help • ELEG & CPEG = Required • Not your normal math class • Medium workload

  8. ELEG370 • Title: Engineering Electromagnetics • Topics: Transmission Lines, E&M statics, E&M dynamics, Antennas • ELEG & CPEG = Required • Lots of 3D Calculus • Horror stories? • Heavy workload

  9. CPEG324 • Title: Computer Systems Design I • Topics: Pipelined Architectures, Memory Hierarchies, Multiprocessor Architectures, basic VHDL • CPEG323 is a prerequisite • CPEG required • ELEG not recommended (or feasible) • Medium workload

  10. CISC361 • Title: Operating Systems • Process management & storage management • Threads, processes, scheduling • Memory management, virtual memory, file systems • CPEG Required • ELEG might be a bit off topic, but take if you are a really interested • Medium workload

  11. Technical Electives • 20 Credits not counting senior design • Lots of choices… pick what you like!

  12. ELEG312 • Title: Electronic Circuit Analysis II • Topics: Frequency Response, Electronic feedback, Operational Amplifiers Design • ELEG very highly recommended • CPEG recommended (more later) • Jorge.

  13. CISC370 • Title: Object Oriented Programming/Java • Learn Java and some more advanced programming ideas • Night class • Lots of programming projects • CPEG / ELEG recommended • Java is everywhere

  14. ELEG460 • Title: High Technology Entrepreneurship • Financial, legal, and scientific information about a start up businesses • Recommended for ELEG and CPEG who are interested in starting up their own companies

  15. CISC280 • Title: Program Development Techniques • Scheme is used, but not a scheme class. • Programming paradigms and problem solving • CPEG / ELEG Recommending if you like programming and problem solving • Required for CISC minor

  16. ELEG471 • Title: Biomedical Engineering • Learn about human physiology and some engineering applications • Highly recommended for those who want to go into a medical field or want to learn more about the human body

  17. CPEG467 • Computer Network Design • Learn about network topology and internet technologies such as switches, routers, firewalls • Hands on labs • ELEG & CPEG interested in network communications

  18. Others out there • Electives are supposed to be things you are interested in! • Check the course catalog to see what will be offered

  19. General Electives • 5 additional General Education courses beyond the required ones • Suggestions? • History – US history / World History • Econ – use your math skills

Thinking Ahead … Senior Design • ELEG • ELEG409/410 – Signals & Communications Design • 2 semester sequence; requires ELEG467 • Requires C programming • ELEG450 – Semiconductor Device Design & Fabrication • Consider taking ELEG312 • CPEG • CPEG422 – VHDL (design language for ICs) • CPEG460 – VLSI (IC design on transistor level) • ELEG312 is a prerequisite • Choose electives that will help you in senior year!

  21. Things to keep in mind • Don’t overload yourself – take easy general electives • You can take 300 level technical electives in your senior year • Plan ahead! Map our the rest of your college career • If you fail two exams and the final project, you can still pass the class if you demonstrate quality complaining skills.
