  2. INTRODUCTION TO THE TOPIC • 5/6S first learnt all about grains, pulses and legumes. • With a partner we each researched a different grain or pulse and compiled an information report which we delivered to the class. • We researched and discussed the difference between wholegrain foods and highly refined grain foods. • We learnt why we need four or more serves of wholegrain foods a day. • We investigated what nutritional value was provided by grain based foods. • We held a taste test day where everyone in the class brought in an example of a grain based food.

  3. Designing and Clarifying the Design Task • We learnt about advertising. • We were split up into 3 groups. • Finally, we created our advertising campaigns.

  4. Designing and Clarifying the Design Task In order to define and clarify the design task, 5/6S had to:- • Write a creative brief. • Start a design journal for recording information throughout our project. • Research and collect examples of advertising products. • Establish a KWLH chart.

  5. Generating, Refining and Selecting Ideas • 5/6S students researched and taste tested a wide variety of grain-based foods • We explored our home pantries and recorded the wholegrain or wholemeal products we found in them. • We identified the diverse range of advertising in the media. • We discussed the most effective way of advertising to our target group.

  6. Generating, Refining and Selecting Ideas • We reviewed the design brief and identified the criteria necessary for our campaigns to be a success. • We brainstormed ideas for a class campaign. • We recorded and organised information from our survey. • In groups we discussed the direction of our campaigns.

  7. Group Campaigns • Each team shared the production responsibilities of writing scripts, organising songs and jingles, artwork, video and still photography. • The teams worked hard for weeks to produce their advertising campaigns.

  8. Target Audience • Our creative brief stated that our campaign was aimed at primary students aged between 5 and 13. • We surveyed students within our school to see what knowledge they had about grain based foods. • Our advertising campaign is specifically targeting at children from 5 -13 years of age. • We aimed our advertisements and jingles to attract the attention of these students.

  9. Creative Brief • We discussed our creative brief as a whole class. • Each of the groups wrote a creative design brief for their group. • All information that was provided by Go 4 Grains was considered and used in designing our campaigns. • We especially paid attention to the long term health benefits.

  10. Campaign Elements • Use the slogan as often as possible. • Colour and logo - use existing Go 4 Grains logo and colourful, bright images. • Music and jingles - students selected tunes and lyrics that were catchy and entertaining. • Go 4 Grains advertisements were made into videos and radio advertisements. • Music and jingles - all scripts, songs and jingles were written by students to be used in the class video.

  11. THE SURVEY • What we found out: • their favourite foods were pasta and pizza. • most students ate toast or cereal for breakfast. • most students could identify what a grain was. • they ate mostly rice and corn and ate least rye and barley. • they ate grains mostly one a day and thought they should eat grains twice a day.
