FUT Technique:- ❖ In FUT technique a 2 cm wide strip of skin with hair is harvested from you scalp by cutting it with knife . ❖ After harvesting the strip the donor area is closed by stitches. ❖ The stitches are usually removed in 10– 14 days. ❖ Using ‘trichophyte closure’, the scar will be better concealed, as some hair will grow through the scar. The hairs surrounding the scar will conceal it, as long as they are not too short. ❖ The harvested hairs are then cut into follicular unit micro- grafts ( 1-4 hair ) under magnification. ❖ These grafts are then placed in the areas of hair loss (recipient area) with small, superficial needle holes or slits in the skin of the scalp.

6. FUE Technique:- FUE stands for follicle unit extraction which is also called Stitchless, Scarless, Cutless technique. In this technique the follicular units are extracted with help of 0.8 mm – 1 mm diameter punches from the donor area (that is back and side of your head) . The individual follicular units are transplanted into bald area after extraction. This is a day care procedure and it needs 7-8 hours to complete this whole procedure. Follicles are extracted from permanent zone(back and side) so transplanted hair don’t fall in future. ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ No unconscious state is required as procedure is done by giving local anesthesia to scalp only. You can talk, listen music, watch tv while your hair transplant procedure is going on. ❖ Inadequate Training and hand eye co-ordination – FUE hair transplant requires lot of hand eye co- ordination for perfection. ❖ FUE is mostly done by Dermatologist who don’t have any surgical training so they start it with naked eye and gradually start wear magnifying loupes of 2.5 X to 4 X magnifications. AKESO is first clinic in New Delhi to make microscope 10 X – 20 X magnification standard during graft extraction. Previously also various doctors have tried this but most of them could not extract more than 1000 grafts in one day at these magnifications so the idea of microscopic 10 X – 20 X magnification could not be used in clinical practice. Dr Akhilesh is able to extract more than 2500 grafts per day in this technique Dr. Akhilesh punch – Dr. Akhilesh has done 3 modifications in existing punches a. 10 degree centrifugal edge – as the hair in each graft are in Centre , the centrifugal semi sharp edge does not cut the graft.
