  2. Kumbalanghi is very different from others, because of the working style and natural beauty. The surroundings of the backwaters will rank Kumbalanghi in the first position among other model villages. In 2003 The Kerala State government selected a number of villages as a part of the “Model Village” project. Kumbalangi was the first selected Model Village. It is an island which is situated 15km away from Ernakulam Town and 35 km far from Cochin International Airport. Nearly 1,20,000 people are living in this village. If you are coming by train, you should get down at the Ernakulam JN Railway station, Kumbalangi is located 16kms away from the Railway Station. If you don’t have an idea about the route, don’t hesitate to call a Taxi that would help you arrive at the destination quickly. 3. Kumbalangi Village Activities

  4. Kumbalangi is the most attractive tourist place in Ernakulam. Lots of tourists are coming to Kumbalangi every day. Mostly Foreigners, who are coming to see the traditional activities of villagers. Following are the activities you can see if you visit the Kumbalangi tourism village.

  5. 1.Clam Meat Processing Clam meat processing cannot be left out from the Kumbalangi aquatic tourism. Clams, shellfish, are found in backwaters. For the inhabitants of the Kumbalangi tourism village, clam meat processing is their livelihood. Usually, we could see families carrying out clam processing as a happy family affair with the entire family taking part in the same.

  6. 2.Coir Making In Kumbalangi the coir business is of traditional style. The ripe coconut husks are being soaked in water, at that point retted and prepared. The village women then beat the retted husk with their wooden mallets so that they could separate the fibres after drying it in the sun for two to three hours. We at EnteKumbalangi provide our guests with the best Cochin sightseeing tour of a lifetime opportunity to get introduced to the village's traditional style of defibring.

  7. 3. Crab Farming Green and Red Crabs are the two types of crabs usually found in Kerala's brackish waters. In these two, the green ones are the ones with less attacking instincts. Green colored crabs are the ones with a good market value in the Far East. Generally, the crabs are exported alive. In Kumbalangi, there is a crab farm, where fattening of crabs is done in a natural way.

  8. 4. Fishing with Chinese Fishing Net Chinese fishing nets in Cochin were introduced by the Chinese during the fifteenth century. Here at Kumbalangi, one of the best tourist places in Kochi, the nets are operated at night time. Electric lighting is a technique used to attract fishes and prawns. Usually, two people operate one Chinese fishing net.The main occupation of the villagers in Kumbalangi is fishing and there are hundreds of Chinese nets in the backwater. The villagers create a breeding ground for  prawns, crabs and small fish.
