  2. What kind of Sacrament is Matrimony? A Sacrament of Service In your own words explain why it is a “Sacrament of Service?”

  3. Marriage was part of God’s plan from the very beginning… God made humans in his image and likeness. Humans were created to love one another. God made the first humans male and female to make us different, but equal. • Book of Genesis 1:28”Be fertile and multiply…” • What does this mean? • To allow men and women to have children and teach them the same values

  4. The Importance of Matrimony Jesus showed the importance of marriage by showing up to the wedding in Cana and helping the couple who had been married. Marriage is an effective sign of Jesus’ love and presence. The Sacrament of Matrimony is a sign of Jesus’ love through a husband and a wife.

  5. The Importance of Matrimony Matrimonywhen a man and a woman become husband and wife. They promise to be faithful to each other for the rest of their lives. In this sacrament a man and woman are united as loving partners. • A married couple promises to: • Love and truthful to each other • Accept their children as a gift from God • Live out their lives through God

  7. Marriage is a covenant built on Christ’s love for the Church. Marriage covenanta life-long commitment between a man and a woman to live as faithful partners The bride and groom are the CELEBRANTS of the Sacrament of Matrimony. Fidelityfaithfulness to a person and to duties, obligations, or promises.

Marriage takes preparation • Which sacraments do you think are necessary in order to receive a Catholic marriage? • Baptism • Eucharist • Penance • Atleast one of the individuals has to be Catholic in order to get married in a Catholic church. • That individual must have received those sacraments prior to matrimony

  9. Marriage takes preparation • The couple can participate in Pre Cana. • This is a program that helps a couple reflect on its relationship and helps them decide if marriage is the right path to choose for that relationship.

  10. The Rite of Matrimony A deacon or priest can officiate the ceremony Liturgy of the Wordreadings chosen by the couple After the gospel, the couple proclaims their vows. The couple exchanges their rings (wedding banns) normally simple gold rings that symbolize “eternity” Liturgy of the Eucharist (if couple is Catholic)
