  4. Framing of the Career Choice Process • Data vs. Assumptions • Data vs. Expectations • Self-Awareness is your “Foundation” • Career Choice enables Self-Awareness through knowledge of your Career-Orientation and current state of your KSAs (knowledge, skills & abilities)

  5. Self-Assessments: Review & Harvest • TheCareer Clusters explorationbased on John Holland’s Theory of Careers • “Identifying My KSAs”: Focuses on a self-assessment of your current career-related knowledge, skills and abilities.

  6. Career-Orientation Assessment • The Career Clusters exploration is based on John Holland’s Theory of Careers • According to Holland and other researchers, when a person’s interests match those activities required by their job or occupation, that person will find more enjoyment from their work, be more satisfied with their job, find more purpose in their work, and generally enjoy greater life satisfaction.

  7. Overview of the Theory of Careers • Six (6) “Occupational Themes” –Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional • Thirty (30) “Occupational Scales” – approximately five (5) per “Occupational Theme” • Four hundred fifty (450) “Occupations or Jobs” – approximately fifteen (15) per “Occupational Scale”

  8. The Career Interests Game • The Career Interests Game is designed to help you match career possibilities with your interests and skills. The Career Interests Game will also help you consider how your personality will “fit” with specific work environments and career paths. • The results of the Assessment & Exercise will give you important insights into your career orientation. • This information will be utilized as you complete Pathfinder’s Career Development Program. • Click on this link, or type: http://career.missouri.edu/students/explore/thecareerinterestsgame.php

  9. “My KSAs” Self-Assessment • “KSAs”: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Every career-field has required KSAs • Some required KSAs are specific to that career-field (such as a degree in accounting) • Other KSAs are “transferable” (such as leadership skills)

  10. Take The KSA Assessment • Review and reflect upon Pathfinder’s Identifying My KSAs Resource(CDP Assessment 1.D). • Once you have completed this review and reflection, then complete Pathfinder’s KSAs Exercise(CDP Exercise 1.E). • The results of the KSAs Exercise will give you important insights into your current qualifications. • This information will be utilized as you complete Pathfinder’s Career Development Program.

  11. NEXT STEPS • You will discuss the results of your Career Choice work with Coach Davis • And, you are ready to progress to the next section of Pathfinder’s Career Development Program: CAREER PLAN
