Akhilesh Srivastava’s Highway Journey takes him to CIDC Vishwakarma Award A lifetime achievement award is conferred on a person to recognize their contributions over the entire course of their career. Chief General Manager (CGM) of IT and Highway Operations Division, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Akhilesh Srivastava, has been bestowed with the lifetime achievement award for his achievements as Public Officer at the 10th Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) Vishwakarma Awards 2018 in New Delhi. CGM Akhilesh Srivastava is the man behind several government projects in industries such as Engineering, Law, Contract Management, and Operational Management. He graduated summa cum laude in BTech, MTech, MBA, LLB, MIS, FIE, and FIV. He has also been part of several High-Power Committees (HPCs) constituted by the Government of India. The CGM of the NHAI is known for his effectiveness in managing, monitoring, leading, and executing projects of all sizes. By supervising small to large-scale megaprojects, CGM Srivastava worked towards accomplishing sustainability of the Indian highways sector. Srivastava believed in making use of technology in solving roads and highways issues and implemented the same in his projects. He integrated IT in his highway infrastructure projects, which includes tolling and highway mobile utility projects. The national highway agency CGM, Srivastava, has implemented the use of Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) and industrial drones for the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs). He brought transparency and ease in tolling by paving a way for automatic fee deduction at Toll plazas. Akhilesh Srivastava implemented Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system, which can cut downs traffic jams at Toll gates and saves fuel consumption that arises due to waiting for paying tolls. He also designed and implemented e-tendering for the Ministry of Defence throughout India. The NHAI’s CGM developed Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) that complements the Centre’s digital India initiative and promotes cyber Arbitration and Conciliation. Srivastava is leading the construction of the NHAI’s Wayside Amenities (WSAs) megaproject. Srivastava was applauded for the conversion of manual Toll payments into Electronic Toll lanes by harnessing FASTag services and RFID technology. He introduced smart the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) and Incident Management System (IMS) on Highways Network of India.

  2. To get detailed information on projects, Srivastava introduced LiDAR and industrial drones. Moreover, to safeguard highway commuter’s journey, Srivastava launched 24X7 National Highways Helpline – 1033. For innovations in the highways sector, Srivastava won applauds from eminent personalities globally. His phenomenal outputs promoted him to take care of new verticals within the division. He is working towards introducing Web Radio, Wi-Fi connectivity, solar energy panels, green belts, and more on the National Highways Network of India. Srivastava dedicated over a decade of his life working for the upgradation of the road infrastructure in India. Harnessing technology in every project, modernizing the highway sector, digitalizing Toll payments, implementing an emergency incident management system, and introducing ODR in the construction sector, He has worked towards the development of the nation. Recognizing the achievements and work of Srivastava, the CIDC has facilitated him with lifetime achievement award for his impeccable work in the highway sector at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, on 07th March 2018.
