Centroids

Centroids. Which triangle segment do you draw to find the centroid? Median How is the centroid special? It is the center of mass. There is another special property that all centoids have. The centroid spits each median of a triangle up into 2 pieces.

  1. Centroids

  2. Which triangle segment do you draw to find the centroid? Median How is the centroid special? It is the center of mass.

  3. There is another special property that all centoids have.

  4. The centroid spits each median of a triangle up into 2 pieces. One of them is 2/3 the length of the median and one of them is 1/3 the length of the median.

  5. Let’s apply what we just learned. If AD is 6 in. long. How long is AG? How long is GD?

  6. Let’s apply what we just learned. If AD is 12 in. long. How long is AG? How long is GD?

  7. The good thing about this rule is that it works for a all medians. If BE is 15 in. long. How long is BG? How long is GE?

  8. Don’t let this one trick you. If GE is 15 in. long. How long is BG? How long is BE?

  9. One more tricky one. If AB = 18, how long is AF?

  10. Checkpoint. • If AD = 21 in., how long is AG? • If BE = 36 in., how long is GE? • If CF = 39 in., how long is GF? • If AG = 12 in., how long is GD? • If EG = 4 in., how long is EB? • 14 in. • 12 in. • 13 in. • 6 in. • 12 in.
