Water Operators Partnerships • Initiated by the Hashimoto Action Plan Call for breakthroughs in vital areas of water services delivery, especially through water operator partnerships, to help reach MDGs • Supported by range of donors and organizations globally Global WOP Alliance led by UN-Habitat; regional WOP networks in Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Asia • Focus on practical knowledge sharing and partnership Capacity building through twinning partnerships between water operators, training, and knowledge products

  7. WHY USE WOPs? (Section 1) Advantages of WOPs • WOPs are the right fit • WOPs give value for money • WOPs provide inspirational support • WOPs focus on public utilities and are pro-poor • WOPs offer anchoring capacity • WOPs help catalyse reform

The WOPs Concept • Most capacity for improving water and sanitation operators is within the operators themselves. • The WOPs are based on mechanisms to allow operators (public and private) to systematically communicate amongst each other, without having to wait for funding assistance WOPs CONCEPT (section 2)

The definition of WOPs A WOP can be defined as any form of • informal or formal collaboration or • structured partnership between two (or more) water operators that: • provides capacity building • is based on not-for-profit principles • is results-oriented and • follows good governance principles WOPs CONCEPT (section 2)
