2. About me My name is Marina and I am in the 9 form. I’m keen on both Russianand foreign literature. Ienjoy reading detectivestories, adventures andromance. Recently I’veread a novel by anAmerican writer JeanWebster . It is called“Daddy Long-Legs”.

3. Epistolary novel Daddy Long-Legs is an epistolary novel (written in the form of letters). This novel tells the story about a young girl named Jerusha “Judy” Abbott and about her college years. She writes the letters to her benefactor, a rich man whom she has never seen.

4. Plot summary Jerusha Abbott, an old-fashioned orphanage, was brought up at an orphan asylum where her life was hard. The children were wholly dependent on charity. They were badly fed and had to wear other people's cast-off clothes. Judy was a very bright girl and when she finished school her guardian sent her to college. Judy feels very happy about it. She hopes to become a writer and pay back the money spent on her education by her guardian. About the latter the girl knows almost nothing: she knows that he is a very tall man. That’s why she jokingly calls him Daddy Long-Legs.

5. The main characters The main characters of this novel are Jerusha Abbot and hertrustee. He is a handsome young man of about 30. He comes from a rich family. In her letters Jerusha wrote about the abyss of ignorance she had when she entered the college.

6. Conclusion (my personal opinion of the book) This book was J.Webster's best-known work. It was made into a stage playand a 1952 British stage musical comedy was called Love from Judy. In my opinion this book is worth reading especially for young romantic girls.
