  2. General Workmanship • Square • True to plan dimensions • Evaluation of cutting, drilling, and welding • Grinding has been kept to a minimum • Project must be blue ribbon to place

  3. Trailer Workmanship • Use trailer check sheet • Inspect for protected wiring • Lights meet DOT requirements • Inspect spacing between tire and fender • Axle attachment • Weld spatter removal • Painting

  4. Electrical Project Workmanship • Conforms to NEC • Proper Polarity • Adequate wire length for repair • Neat and Organized • Wire to terminal attachment • Proper grounding

  5. Design • Look for evidence that student has thought through the project • Projects should be planned and drawn before • construction begins • Material selection • Practical use vs. cost

  6. Trailer Design • Safety Chains • TxDOT standards (check sheet may be verified) • Protected wires • Fender clearance • Tie downs • Operator convenience

  7. 3 Point Hookup and PTO Design • Must meet ASABE standards • Sound construction and safe • Identification of pinch and wrap points • Shielding and SMV emblem use

  8. Wood Project Design • Proper fastener use • Selection of finish (finish matches use) • Flashing and sheet metal covers

  9. Documentation • To be covered by additional presentation • *Students will be given a copy this year*

  10. General Knowledge • Quality of projects has improved over the years • Points given for knowledge area are of greater importance • Questioning provides the best evaluation of knowledge • Fewer general questions –more specific

  11. Knowledge: Judges Questions • Higher quality projects require more in depth questions to differentiate scores • Questions are tied to documentation and photos • Answers to questions should give the answer not a rehearsed speech • Student should be able to demonstrate project

  12. Knowledge: Judges Questions • Questions should relate to project students have designed and built • Be prepared for an assortment of questions • As basic student knowledge is revealed request detailed information • Quality Project + Quality Answers = • Placing Project

  13. Knowledge: Question Ideas • Specification of material used • Welding information • Distortion control method • Project information sources • Project work sources

  14. Difficulty • Based on size, complexity and scope • Illustrated by a greater amount of skills • Construction difficulty earns more points • Intricate and moving parts earn more points • *Simple projects can be blue ribbon*

Additional Information • All members of a team built project should be able to answer questions • Try to maintain eye contact • Demonstrate project • Student must have the ability to sell themselves and their project • Student should be familiar with doc. check sheet, trailer check sheet, and critique sheet
