  2. What is a Concept Map? • Visual map or web of your knowledge. • A technique for representing what you know about a given topic. • Shows how different pieces of information relate to one another. • The lines on a concept map show how 2 concepts are related. These lines are labeled to show the relationship.

  3. Why use a Concept Map? • When we learn something new, we integrate it with what we already know. • Interrelating concepts with other concepts and labeling relationships between concepts helps you integrate different concepts together. • This promotes better understanding and recall of the concept as well as the ability to apply knowledge in new situations.

  9. Steps to Create a Concept Map • Determine key concepts related to the topic. • Identify sub-concepts/ideas related to the key concepts. • Identify links between concepts. The linking words should form sentences between the concepts.

Concept Map about School • Begin by writing down 5 – 10 ideas about school(you may use sticky notes if you wish). • Think about how your ideas are related to each other. • Once you have several ideas about school, begin classifying them in a way that makes sense to you. • Draw arrows to show connections and use linking words to illustrate the relationship. The linking words should make a sentence between the two ideas. • Add more concepts/ideas as necessary.
