The falls are beautiful, but if going through without any package tour, sometimes may face a bad experience too outside of that beauty, as it would disheartened to see the hokey/gimmicky trinket stores, permanent fair rides, haunted houses and flashing lights/noises which draw attention from children and it is not all that great for couples or romantic get-away. Some times during the off-season too, we cannot imagine paying full price during prime time and it is very sad to see one of the "natural wonders of the world" so heavily commercialized. It is advisable on going through tour packages and do it inside a trip to Toronto or Ontario. It is an enjoyable city to visit with great ambiance in town, a lot of things to do, and places to eat have to go see the falls it’s a must, Niagara Falls is one of the most interesting sites in the world. The sheer size of this thing is incredible! You spend maybe half an hour looking at the falls, and the rest of the time throwing money at casinos and overpriced food. Fruit picking in the Niagara region is a much better way to spend your time in the summer. As it has become one of the commercial attractions, sometimes owing to nightmare houses or scary houses whatever we can call, it is not advisable for kids anymore, at least walking outside during the late night.
