  2. Characteristics Animals that sleep in the day and come out at night are called nocturnal. Many have very sensitive hearing. Most have a very good sense of smell. Some animals have special features to help them catch prey.

  4. Bats • Fruit bat • Spotted bat • Black flying fox bat

  5. Fruit Bat • Wing span of up to 5 feet • Has the best vision • Lives in warmer climates • Eats fruit

  6. Spotted bat • Lives near water • Eats insects • Has a wingspan of about 14 inches

  7. Black flying fox bat • Can live up to 20 years • Has a wingspan of about 3 feet • Lives in Austraila

  8. Foxes • Red fox • Gray fox • Fennec fox

  9. Red fox • Largest of the fox species • Can live in many places • Its prey for large cats

  10. Gray fox • Eats small animals and fruit • Can climb trees • Lives mostly in North America

  11. Fennec fox • Lives in the desert • Hunts at night • Lives in small packs

  12. Owls • Elf owl • Spectacled owl • Snowy owl

  13. Elf Owl • They eat insects • They live in desert and woodland areas • They lay 1-5 eggs at a time

  14. Spectacled Owl • Their eyes resemble glasses • They prey on small mammals • Live in rainforests

  15. Snowy Owl • The heaviest owl in North America • Lives in cold climates • Can eat animals that are caught in a trap
