  2. Welcome to Seventh Grade! • Introduction • If you have any questions during my presentation, please stop me and ask them. (If one person does, chances are someone else does too.

  3. All About Me • My background • I grew up in Upper Darby, and Springfield • I attended Saint Alice, O.L.P.H., O’Hara, DCCC, and West Chester University • My experience • I’ve been teaching for 18 years. • I have also taught pre-k, 5th and 6th grade.

  4. My Involvements • Technology Committee • Helped write a grant for the SMART Boards • Coach Girls Basketball • Coach Girls Softball • Traveled to West Catholic for the Academic Competition last year. • Organized Comcast Cares Day • Development Committee • Offer extra help on Wednesdays after school for students on the third floor. • Coordinator for First in Math • Advisory Board Member • Helped save the school

  5. My Goals • To give your child the academic and social skills they need to progress to seventh grade and on. • To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. • To help you continue to lay the ground work for having your child be a responsible, productive member of society.

  6. Class Subjects • The subjects we cover during seventh grade are: • Religion • Math • Reading, Writing, and Spelling • Social studies • Science • Music and Art • Gym • Computers

  7. Reading and Writing • READING • A 7th grade student must read with an oral fluency of 130 words per minute • Students are to keep a monthly reading log of every piece of literature they read. • Encourage your child to practice 30 minutes of reading and have them tell you about it. • Reading text, My Brother Sam is Dead, Esperanza Rising, and The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle and other novels that I will pass out to the class. • WRITING • 7th grade students are expected to write multiple-paragraph compositions: narrative and expository • Vocabulary Strategies are introduced and practiced to strengthen reading comprehension and writing skills • Journal Discussion and Writing • 5 Stages of the Writing Process is emphasized • Arguments, Informative and explanatory text, and Research papers.

  14. Attendance and Citizenship • Maintain outstanding attendance throughout the school year is extremely important. • Reinforce positive behavior at home and at school. Refer to school & classroom rules and guidelines. • Child must be well-prepared with proper attire, materials for learning and come to school ready to learn. • Your child should come to school with a smile, a positive attitude and ready to learn. • Teamwork between teacher-parent and student is the key to your child’s success in Grade7

  15. Classroom Community • Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have one rule to help us get along with each other. • Our class rule is: • Be Respectful!

  16. Homework • I will assign homework every night. This includes 30 minutes of reading. Please sign their log. • I will have homework on my website each night. • Your child can miss 3 assignments, after three missed assignments they will receive a lunchtime detention, after 2 more they will receive an afterschool detention. After the 5th missed assignment it will result in point deduction on their final tri-mester grade. • If there is a circumstance that occurs that your child cannot do their homework, please send me a note, or call the office. I know that life happens.

  18. Assignment Books, Test Folders and Family Envelopes Please sign your child’s assignment book and reading log every night. Each Tuesday your child’s test folder will go home. This is also the day that the youngest or only in each family will bring home the family envelope. Please read the papers in the envelope.
