Brazil and the State of Rio de Janeiro: economic snapshot Area The State of Rio de Janeiro has 43.910 km² (slightly bigger than Denmark) with 92 cities, and is located on the Southeast of Brazil Capital Rio de Janeiro, Brazil`s second largest and most famous city. Rio de Janeiro city will host the 2014 FIFA World Cup final and the 2016 Olympic Games (along with the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup) State of Rio de Janeiro City of Rio de Janeiro
