  2. What is an expository essay? An expository essay is non-fiction; it explains some idea or event or person in a way that is informative to the reader. What is the first step in writing an essay? Always, start your essay with a prewrite in which you plan what key points you will make in your essay What does it mean to revise and edit your essay? Revising and editing your essay means that you make changes and corrections as the last step before your final draft. On the STAAR Test, how many lines can your essay be? 26 lines, the same as on notebook paper.
