  3. GRADUATION! Freshmen ECAP CREDITS + AIMS – Score Meets or Exceeds on the reading, writing and math sections. Will take in spring of tenth grade. + Completed Education & Career Action Plan (ECAP) + Red Mountain High School =

  4. Each class each semester is worth ½ credit. By the end of this year, you should have 6 credits. 9th – 6 credits 10th – 6 credits 11th – 6 credits 12th – 4-6 credits TOTAL = 22+ credits

  5. STANDARD SCHOLASTIC differences? * 2 years of same world language * 4 math Alg 1, Geo, Alg 2 + Adv math * 4 Lab Sciences: SC09, Bio, Chem& an Adv. Science OR Bio, Chem & 2 Adv. Sciences 2 weighted credits 3.0 gpa

  6. Get Academically Ready 9th grade IS important. Colleges, military recruiters, technical schools, scholarship programs and employers will choose to look at this year as part of the overall picture of who you are and how you’ve done. They will look at grades as well as what kind of a person you are in and out of school. You can show them this through: Doing your personal best every day. Challenging yourself – take courses at the highest level/number in which you can be successful. Getting involved in clubs, sports, music, service learning, etc.

  7. Four year universities, when considering applicants, will generally look at a combination of the following: G.P.A. Class Rank – determined by how well you do in 17 “college core” classes. SAT or ACT scores – college admissions exams typically taken at the end of junior year. Extracurricular Activities – clubs, service learning, sports, music, etc.

  8. Be Your Own ADVOCATE No one knows what you need as well as YOU! High school teachers are now treating you as the older & more independent student that you are. So… *Get organized – use your planner to write down assignments, test and project due dates. Everything in its place – no loose papers in your backpack *Check your portal regularly – calendar, grades, course history, etc. You’re in charge of your education & graduation! *If you do poorly on a test or assignment, ask the teacher if you can meet with him to review it. *If you miss an assignment or a test, don’t expect the teacher to give you the work you missed. Ask her for it. *If you need help with a subject, get help! Don’t wait for a teacher or parent to suggest it. *Make the decision to demonstrate good attendance and good study skills.

  9. ATTENDANCE District policy states you must be here 90 percent or more in order to receive credit. Attendance makes the difference between an A & a B, a C & a D, etc. If you’ve been sick, get together with your teacher as soon as you return to arrange to make up work/tests/projects. Prospective employers may even ask about your attendance at school. They want employees who show up for work and work hard!

  11. Homework? What about ……. Ifyouanticipatetrouble... Your teacher is your best resource – ask questions & find out his/her tutoring days/times. Go to Media Center for help with math and/or science Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays – 3:15 – 5:00 pm. Identify one or more classmates (study buddies) in each class you can call if need be. If you have trouble after you get home... City of Mesa Library has free online homework assistance from 2 pm to 12 am: www.mesalibrary.org Visit the tutoring link on Red Mountain’s Counseling page for more ideas. Call your study buddies.

GETTING INVOLVED Tells colleges, military recruiters and employers: *How you've made a meaningful contribution to something *What your non-academic interests are *Whether you can maintain a long-term commitment *Whether you can manage your time and priorities Haven't Gotten Involved Yet? We have many clubs/sports at Red Mountain. Also, there are many organizations outside of school that offer you the opportunity to explore your talents and interests.

  15. Getting some form of education after high school is an investment that pays off— The earning gap between those with a high school diploma and those with further education/training exceeds $ 1 million over a lifetime.

LeBron James, top-ranked NBA player Perfect job = You’re good at it (skill) You like it (interest) You put forth effort (practice/studying, training/schooling) So how do you find the perfect job? Through Kuder Navigator! Now if LeBron was missing one of these, it’s doubtful he’d be where he is at today!
