  2. Explore Test – Tomorrow! • Report to your testing location at 8:00 am. • Testing will begin at 8:15 am and should last until 10:30 am. • After testing, you will continue with your regular schedule beginning with 4th period.

  3. Explore Test – Tomorrow! • If you score at least 1 point higher than your last test, you will receive a 100% for a quiz grade. • If you do not score at least 1 point higher, you will not be penalized… • …but shame will fall upon you!

  4. Homework! • 1. x > 4 8. x < 2 • 2. x < 5 9. x > -3 • 3. x < 3 10. h < 7 • 4. x < 8 11. h > 10 • 5. x > 8 • 6. x > 9 • 7. x < -2

  5. XEI 506: Solve first-degree inequalities that do not require reversing the inequality sign* XEI 601: Write expressions, equations, and inequalities for common algebra settings Linear Inequalities: Reversing the Sign!

  6. Reversing the Sign! • Whenever we multiply or divide by a negative number, we must REVERSE the inequality sign. -2x < 6 -2 -2 x > -3 We have to divide by -2. So we have to reverse the sign.

  7. Two-Step Linear Inequality -2x – 2 > -8 + 2 + 2 -2x > -6 -2 -2 x < 3 Reverse the sign! Oh! Reverse the sign!

  8. Two-Step Linear Inequality Reverse the sign! -3x + 1 < 10 – 1 – 1 -3x < 9 -3 -3 x > -3

  9. Two-Step Linear Inequality Allan, you dummy, reverse the sign! 5x > -9 + 8x – 8x – 8x -3x >-9 -3 -3 x < 3

  10. Two-Step Linear Inequality 1 2 _ x + 2 < 5 – 2 – 2 x < 3 x > -6 . . 1 2 2 1 _ _ 2 1 _ If you don’t get it by now, REVERSE the sign when multiplying or dividing by a negative number!

  11. Chris’ Chickens! Chris has $500 in his savings account. He has been buying chickens. It costs him $3 for every chicken he buys. He now has less than $50. How many chickens did he buy? 500 – 3c < 50 – 500 – 500 -3c < -450 -3 -3 c > 90 He bought more than 90 chickens! I love chicken!

  12. Nadia’s Teeth Nadia has to pay for new teeth. She has $450 in her bank account but pays $25 a month. She now has less than $150 in her bank account. How many months has she been paying? $450 – $25m < $150 – 450 – 450 -25m < -300 -25 -25 m > 12 months My teeth are great now!
