The Covenant

…eternity

Creation

In the beginning G-d…

“Who am I?”

I am creature made by G-d in His image with value and worth.

Ro eh tzion

Genesis 3:15Covenant of Grace

I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.

G-d

…eternity

Creation

In the beginning G-d…

“Who am I?”

I am creature made by G-d in His image with value and worth.

Adamic

Adamic

  • [A] To populate the Earth (Gen.1:28).

  • [B] To subdue the Earth (Gen.1:28).

  • [C] Given dominion over the animal creation (Gen.1:28).

  • [D] To care for the Earth and enjoy its fruit (Gen.1:29; 2:15).

Ro eh tzion

  • [H] Physical change takes place in humans, and they will have to work every day of their life (vs.19).

  • [I] Humans will die and their bodies will return to the earth (vs.19).

Ro eh tzion

  • [E] To refrain from eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, under the penalty of death (Gen.2:16-17).

  • Gen. 3:14-21There will be pain at childbirth (vs.16).

Ro eh tzion

  • [F] The man is the head (not the dictator) of the household* (vs.16).

  • [G] The ground is cursed and will bring forth weeds among the foods (vs.17-19).

Noahic

Noahic

  • The Noahic Covenantis recorded in Genesis 9:1-17. Some call it the Rainbow Covenant because YAHWEH specially created the manifestation of the rainbow as a continuous sign that this Covenant is still in effect (vs.12-17).

Ro eh tzion

  • YAHWEH added one more provision, introducing the principle of a human government that is to be responsible for suppressing the outbreak of sin and violence.

Ro eh tzion

  • [A] The responsibility to populate the Earth is reaffirmed (vs.1).

  • [B] The subjection (not the butcher) of the animal kingdom to man is reaffirmed (vs.2).

Ro eh tzion

  • [C] The sacredness of human life is established. No-murder! Whoever shed man’s blood, whether man or beast, must be put to death (vs.5, 6).  YAHWEH sometime in the future, demands a 'reckoning' of a-l-l flesh; it is known as the "Great White Throne Judgment.*"

Ro eh tzion

Genesis 9:9,13Covenant with Noah

Behold, I establish my covenant with you and your offspring after you,… I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

Ro eh tzion

  • [E] A promise is made never to destroy the Earth again by a universal flood. (The next time will be by fire, after the final Great White Throne Judgment of humanity and the dark angels, necessary for the final purging of the “Curse of Sin” from the planet, 2Pet.3:10, Rev.20:11-15, 21:1).

Ro eh tzion

  • The Golden Rule rules!  Respect human life - do not murder.

  • No immoral sex.

  • Respect others - do not steal.

  • Belief in G-d- do not worship idols.

Ro eh tzion

  • Do not blaspheme G-d'S name.

  • Create a judicial system.

  • Respect all creatures - do not eat the blood or raw flesh of animals*.

  •           *Do not eat of things strangled.

Genesis 17:1,2Covenant with Abraham

When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am G-d Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless, that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly.

Abrahamic covenant

Abrahamic Covenant

  • The Abrahamic Covenant Defined

  • The LORD made a covenant with Abraham and his descendants consisting of three components:

Ro eh tzion

  • "As for Me, behold, my covenant is with you, and you will be the father of a multitude of nations" [Gen 17:4] "I will establish my covenant between Me and you, and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be G-d to you and to your descendants after you." [Gen 17:7] "And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing;" [Gen 12:2]

Ro eh tzion

  • "I will make you a great nation." [Gen 12:1] "On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying 'To your descendants I have given this land, From the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates." [Gen 15:18]

Ro eh tzion

  • And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." [Gen 12:3]

Ro eh tzion

  • Read Romans 4:1-16

  • Rom 9:6 But it is not as though the word of G-d has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel;

Ro eh tzion

  • Rom 9:7 nor are they all children because they are Abraham's descendants, but: "THROUGH ISAAC YOUR DESCENDANTS WILL BE NAMED."

  • Rom 9:8 That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of G-d, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants.

Ro eh tzion

  • Gal 3:26 For you are all sons of G-d through faith in Messiah Yeshuah.

  • Gal 3:27 For all of you who were baptized into Messiah have clothed yourselves with Messiah.

  • Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Messiah Yeshuah.

  • Gal 3:29 And if you belong to Messiah, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise.

Ro eh tzion

  • Did it have blessings associated with it?

Exodus 195[The LORD said,] “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; 6and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”

Ro eh tzion

  • Did it have curses associated with it?

Exodus 1912Whoever touches the mountain shall be put to death. 13No hand shall touch him, but he shall be stoned or shot; whether beast or man, he shall not live.’…22Also let the priests who come near to the LORD consecrate themselves, lest the LORD break out against them.“…24Do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to the LORD, lest he break out against them."

Ro eh tzion

  • Was it ratified as a covenant?

    • Was there a cutting?

Exodus 245And [Moses] sent young men of the people of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the LORD. 6And Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he threw against the altar. 7Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it in the hearing of the people… 8And Moses took the blood and threw it on the people and said, "Behold the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words."
