    4. Test results Tune-Up Coating material By GP Stratum AS The survey was carried out by PIRA, UK, 18. September 2006

    5. Introduction GP Stratum AS commissioned PIRA with the following: International independent quality assessment and test series of the coating material Tune-Up. Confirmation of achievement of objectives regarding quality standard according to analyses, as well as forgery proof by norms/ standards for added-value documents e.g.: bank documents and stocks

    6. Requirement according to target: In the process in accordance with specification to: Remoistening to ideal values, Prevention of static charge, Elimination of climatic influences, Dust absorption, Improvement of running time, productivity, Longer service life for the installed investment, Quality improvement for the end-product Market requirement according to: Improved end-quality at highest stage, Product- and longevity stability, Security towards authenticity, Forgery proof.

    7. Test procedure In comparison to coated and uncoated digital printed paper. Scouring/ Rubbing PIRA rub tester; ISO Standards and Tape , Blu-Tack and Scalpel APACS Test Curling Tests according to climatic conditions with variation of temperature and humidity

    8. Test methods Printing: 2-up in Web, digital produced with Standard laser print paper 80 gr. Digital printer: technology level according to service Test conditioning: 16 hrs with 23 Grad C, 50% +/- 5% rh

    9. Assessment 1 Coefficient of Friction static / kinetic of printed and uncoated, as well as coated paper, rubbed together face to face. PIRA Test: ASTM D 2894-95; RDM Instrument Statement to paper properties

    10. The Coefficient of Friction paper to paper Remark to the new digital printing parameter The functionality of all mechanical processes is set by humidity, the system’s temperature laps rate, the static charge in the process and the curl on the surface condition on the paper. The end product’s preferably stabile Coefficient of Friction of a printed paper in the transport of a printing line, is the parameter, that applies as orientation regarding economy and productivity!

    11. Result 1 Coefficient Friction paper to paper: Before the coating, the coated paper’s adhesion-and dynamic friction is lower. The Coefficient Frictions correspond to work piece holder in automatic transport equipment. Remarkably, the uncoated, printed paper’s value of dynamic friction was unexpectedly high

    12. Coefficient of Friction

    13. Assessment 2 Adhesion of laser print in the end-product PIRA is working according to the APACS Protokoll Mechanical tests for manual toner removal: Blu-tack / Scalpel / Tape classified: 1 2 3 4 from optimal minimal bad fail forgery proof statement

    14. Classification to the assessment of adhesion

    15. Result 2 Adhesion of toner on the paper treated: very good adhesion and imperceptibly toner abraison exceeding quality. classified acc. to:. PIRA APACS protocol = 1 untreated: relatively minor adhesion and clear toner abraison. Classified acc. to. PIRA APACS Protokoll = 4 Remark: With high demands, also with temperature influence, is sealing or waterproofing obligatory. The Tune-Up coating excludes carbonation

    16. Assessment 3 Rub consistency toner on paper PIRA used the Rub Tester BS 3110 In this test method, areas of print were rubbed face to face for 50 rotations under a pressure of 1psi and the toner abraison assessed. This is a standard test for the print industry Statement to smear-resistance

    17. Result 3 Rub consistency of toner on the paper treated: with complete sealing, resp. coating is the toner definitely smear-resistant. untreated: with no sealing, resp. coating: visible blurring With increased, production-related encumbrances on the paper and without additional protection, significant quality deficiencies and economical deficit are anticipated. Complains are expectable.

    18. Assessment 4 Curl-properties of printed paper In this method, 10x10 cm squares are cut out from each sample and placed each in a test chamber maintained at each of the following conditions: 23 Grad C and 50 % rh (normal) 30 Grad C and 90 % rh (tropical) 30 Grad C and 20 % rh (dry heat) Curl is measured by placing the samples on a flat plane and measuring corner lift. statement to climatic ascendancy

    19. Result 4 Curl properties of the paper: Under all climatic conditions, no curl was visible on the printed and coated template. The paper gets neutralized against climatic influences. The substance’s aging resistance gets extended to the centuplicate. The here guaranteed planity ensures age resistance, quality and productivity

    20. Summary The at PIRA standardised tests proofed highest efficiency towards process stability and quality. It showed, that GP Stratum AS set new standards with its technologies, coating procedures and emulsions. To classify the values in levels, additional benchmarks to other printing systems are required.
