  2. Curator’s Office Lana Nix – Media Specialist My first year at Chestatee High School was in 2013. I returned to the educational field as a computer lab manager at West Hall Middle School after a 15 year break. I then transferred to East Hall Middle School as a technology teacher. After about 2 ½ years, I was fortunate to become the media specialist here at Chestatee. I enjoy working with teachers and students. Learning new technology is a passion of mine. Contact me at lana.nix@hallco.org Return to Entry Note: Virtual museums were first introduced by educators at Keith Valley Middle School in Horsham, Pennsylvania. This template was designed by Dr. Christy Keeler. View the Educational Virtual Museums website for more information on this instructional technique.

Even visits before or after school require you to have a teachers signature in your agenda. You are allowed to have a teacher sign your agenda making a note that you will be visiting the media center every morning or every afternoon if you wish. Each student is to scan their barcode to sign in whenever they visit the media center without a teacher and their class. Return to Exhibit

  12. Fiction Fiction are those books which are untrue in nature. They are full of fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, romance, humor, emotions and can tend to take your imagination anywhere. Fiction books are shelved with an F and the first 3 letters of the authors last name. Example: Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins would be found in the fiction section in alphabetical order under COL. 13. Reference Books Reference books are those you might use while researching a topic for a paper or project. Here at Chestatee, we have moved all of our reference books into their own room which also gives students access to a large conference style table to spread the books out. Reference books may be checked out, but only for the evening. They need to be returned the next day for other students to have access to them. The laptops within our reference room are intended for our online Spanish students. Click here to view the floor plan. Return to Exhibit

  14. Magazines We have an extensive selection of magazines for students and teachers to read. All of our magazines are housed in the Reading Room. We have 2 couches for comfortable seating and a coffee table to help display the magazines. Ms. Gibson (our media clerk) is a wiz at keeping us stock with the best magazines and utilizes the coke reward points she manages from the recycling of Coca-Cola products. 15. Non-Fiction Non-fiction books are cataloged using the Dewey Decimal System. You need to locate the DDS number first and then they will be in alphabetical order according to the first 3 letters of the authors last name. Should the book be a biography, then the DDS number will be followed by the first 3 letters of the last name of the person the book is being written about. Example spines below.
