  8. Authorial Choices • I wrote transactional texts in the form of a covering letter and resume in order to apply for a position at Boost Juice. Boost Juice promote themselves a fun-loving, vibrant company, which influenced my choice of language. I chose to match this language style by writing in an informal tone indicated by the use of contractions and exclamation marks in my covering letter. However, in keeping with the style of transactional texts, and with my audience of professionals and managers in mind, I kept my resume succinct by using dot points and conforming to the conventions of letter writing. The purpose of my application is similar to that of an advertisement; it is to impress the recipient enough to make them want to meet me for an interview. To fulfil this purpose, I made a conscious choice to highlight my strengths and achievements by using positive language such as ‘ ‘ to convey a sense of competence and confidence.
