  4. What materials were originally used to make the product? • Made of vulcanized rubber panels glued at the seams   • Panels are shaped similar to today's basketball

  5. Later • The 1900's bladders were made with stronger rubber • Tanned cow leather

  6. How was the product originally made? • Used rubber bladders. • Made from inner tubes covered with heavy brown leather. • Had a tanned leather cover with eighteen sections stitched together arranged in six panels of three strips each.  • Each section was stitched together by hand with five-ply hemp and a small lace-up slit was on one side. • All of the stitching was done with the ball cover inside out.

What improvements have been made to the product over the years? • On December 4th, adidas and FIFA officially unveiled the adidas “JABULANI”, the Official Match Ball for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. The “JABULANI”, • The outer part of the ball was made from synthetic leather • The inner sections of the ball was made from polyester and cotton fabric
