  19. Case Study • You are working with a 72 year old female client that is of Chinese decent. The client has breast cancer with metastases to the spine and brain. Her oldest son is the primary caregiver/support person. The client has been admitted to your hospital for a bout of intractable pain. Both the son and client are very concerned about the morphine and lorazepam the client is being given to manage the pain as the client does not want to be “sedated”. The client’s sister is arriving in 3 days from China and the son wants his mother to be “awake” for their visit. The clients vital signs are HR 106, BP 100/72, R 20. • How will you address the nursing need for pain management? • How will you address the education to the family on disease progression? • How will you address the issues with sedation?
