  2. USHIP is changing to . . .UC SHIP

  3. Why Change? • UC Office of the President (UCOP) Initiative • Workgroup since 2008 - Students, UCOP, Graduate • Divisions, Student Affairs & Student Health Centers • Goal to improve & standardize benefits • Transportability • Control costs

  4. Effective Dates . . . • Fall Quarter (Sept. 18, 2011) • Continuing & entering graduate students • Summer (2011) • NEW undergraduate students (only) starting early

  5. What’s NOT Changing? • Student Health is your medical home & gateway to other medical care • UCSB Dental Care & Eye Care Centers remain CONVENIENT on-campus resources!

  6. Positive Differences . . . • Less costs to students • Smaller deductibles • Lower pharmacy co-pays • More hospital coverage • No individual claims to file with preferred providers • Increased pharmacy and lifetime maximums • Dental & Vision coverage now at providers off-campus

  7. Important Other Changes . . . • Help undergraduates understand how to use their insurance! • Referrals needed to all non-emergency care outside Student Health • Dental plan has $1,000 maximum/yr for procedures • Dependent care no longer provided at Student Health (different Anthem plan) • Transition of care issues for students under active care when USHIP changes

  8. Obtaining Care Off-Campus When Student Health is closed . . . • Emergency or Urgent Care never need referrals • Encourage Urgent Care Centers unless serious emergencies • Eligible to be seen at other UC Campus Student Health Centers (will be billed to Anthem) • Locate Anthem preferred providers through website listings • Out-of-Area routine needs should obtain advance referrals from Student Health

  9. International TravelHealth Needs . . . • Remind Undergraduates to register foreign travel for additional insurance coverage at: • Anthem I.D. card will have phone number for international assistance • Increased coverage if Anthem network providers used http://atyourservice.ucop.edu/employees/health_welfare/biz_travel_accident.html
