  2. activated charcoal • A form of carbon used to treat certain poisonings and intestinal bloat and gas.

  3. Ampule • A small, sealed glass vial used to store liquids or powders.

  4. antiseptic • Antimicrobial substances that are applied to living tissue/skin to reduce the possibility of infection, sepsis, or putrefaction.

  5. Balling gun • A tool used to administer boluses of liquid or oral medication to larger animals.

  6. bulb syringe • A tool used to aspirate liquids from an animal, such as mucous from the nasal passage.

  7. Butterfly catheter • A steel needle attached to “butterfly” wings and a short piece of tubing; provides a practically bloodless catheterization.

  8. capsules • A stable shell that encloses pharmaceutical medications.

  9. disinfectant • Substances that are applied to non-living objects to destroy microorganisms that are living on the objects.

  27. tablets • Solid dosage forms containing medicinal substances with or without suitable diluents.

  28. transdermal patch • A medicated adhesive patch that is placed on the skin to deliver a specific dose of medication through the skin and into the bloodstream.

  29. vaccine • A biological preparation that improves immunity to a particular disease.

  30. vial • A small container, typically cylindrical and made of glass, used esp. for holding liquid medicines.
