Academy instructors

Academy Instructors

- Former or retired Federal, State and Local law enforcement officers and agents

- Former U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy and other military personnel with maritime security and intelligence experience.

Instructors have been directly involved in maritime law enforcement to include drug interdiction and alien migration interdiction operations (AMIO) both in the US and abroad

Student assessment

Student Assessment

  • All programs offer certificate of graduation upon successful completion

  • For certain States, courses may carry P.O.S.T. certification

  • All written examinations require a minimum score of 70% to pass

  • All practical and lab evaluations require a satisfactory rating for graduation

  • All test scores are maintained by the NMLEA and a copy of the transcript is forwarded to the agency's training officer for their records

  • Dirty Bomb Attack Y2002

  • Location: Savannah and Jacksonville

  • Units Trained: Chatham County SWAT, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office SWAT

  • Training Objective: Permissive, underway boarding and sweep of vessel

  • Scenario: Terrorist two-person support cell transporting ‘dirty bomb’ materials to hand over to action cells in Savannah and Jacksonville

  • Cruise Ship Attack During Super-Bowl 2005

  • Location: Jacksonville, FL

  • Units Trained: JSO SWAT

  • Training Objective: “High end” non-permissive underway boarding with threat personalities in control of the vessel

  • Scenario: Four-man terrorist cell hijacks commercial tug pushing barge carrying ammonium nitrate targeting cruise ships attending the Super bowl


    Note: Exercise designed as part of JSO prep for 2005 SuperBowl

  • Location: Baltimore

  • Units Trained: Maryland State Police SWAT, Baltimore Country SWAT, Baltimore City Police, Anne Arundel County SWAT

  • Training Objective: For MSP, refresher training in underway boarding; for county SWAT, initial orientation and familiarization with operations afloat. Training emphasis: approach to target vessel, boarding, tactical deployment, and vessel familiarization

  • Scenario: Tug hijacking
