  1. Purdue Students for Life "If you want equal justice for all, and true freedom and lasting peace, then America, defend life." -Pope John Paul II

  2. Pro-Life News • Maryland law enforced its Unborn Victims Act for the first time this week, as a man killed both his girlfriend and her unborn child. He was charged with double homicide, and sentenced to life without possibility of parole. • An Oregon pregnancy center, the Pregnancy Alternatives Center in Lebanon, Oregon, is the apparent victim of arson in a possible attack from an abortion advocate. • A hospital in Fort Wayne has indicated that it will give admitting privileges to local abortion practitioners, this allows women who are victims of botched abortions to get medical care. • Planned Parenthood is currently violating FDA regulations with its distribution of the abortion drug, RU 486. The FDA recommends a three step process for this type of abortion, but Planned Parenthood gives only one pill, and ups the dosage of the less expensive drug component, misoprostol. This makes these abortions more profitable for Planned Parenthood, and more dangerous for women. In addition, Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa is now offering no appointment, walk-in abortions at its centers without an appointment with a doctor, and merely consulting a doctor via webcam using this chemical means of abortion.

  3. Crisis Pregnancy Centers • Also known as Pregnancy Resource Centers • As of September, 2006, there were over 2,200 pro-life pregnancy centers in the United States. • Care Net is the largest network of CPCs in North America, with 1,100 centers advising over 350,000 women annually. Funding for CPCs • Most funding comes from donations or fundraising endeavors • Individuals can supports CPCs by purchasing ‘Choose Life’ License plates. • 17 states offer these novelty plates, and funds are used to help CPCs and • adoption support organizations • For Indiana, you can go directly to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles to obtain your Indiana Choose Life plate. The BMV collects their specialty plate fee, as well as the $25 fee that goes to the Indiana Association of Pregnancy Centers. • There are at least 8 states that receive federal funding. As of July 2006, 50 CPCs had received federal funding.

  7. Funding for CPCs • Wal-Mart Foundation donated $157,153 to 261 different CPCs in 2004. • U.S. Airways has given free flight tickets to several CPCs • Bank of America • Chick-fil-A is consistent supporter of CPCs, Focus on the Family, Right to Life organizations, and other anti-choice causes • Curves Fitness CEO Gary Heavin has donated substantial profits to CPCs and has close ties to Operation Save America. • Interstate Batteries, initiators of the 2005 “Charged for Life” campaign • Tom Monaghan, founder of Dominos Pizza, is a known monetary supporter of CPCs and other pro-life causes.  His foundation, the Ave Maria Foundation, granted $20,000 to a CareNet Pregnancy Center in 2000. • Adolph Coors, son of Coors Brewing Company, has, through the Adolph Coors Foundation, given sizeable monetary grants to large pro-life organizations and many CPCs, including Families First, Mountain Area Alternatives Crisis Pregnancy Center, Life Choices Pregnancy Center, and A Woman’s Place. • Joe Gibbs, Hall of Fame former head coach of the Washington Redskins and NASCAR owner, was a supporter of the 2005 “Charged for Life” campaign

  8. Ultrasound and CPCs Colorado based Focus on the Family has a goal of equipping 800 enters with ultrasound machines by 2010. The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, is working on the same goal, what they call the Psalm 139 Project. They are supporting the goal of empowering CPCs with sonogram machines because they know that “people would be confronted with the evident humanity of the baby from very early gestation onward” and would be less likely to choose abortion.

  9. Attacks on CPCs from Abortion Advocates Claim that CPCs are ‘deceptive’ and try to pass as ‘medical facilities’ Don’t like the fact that many are religiously based and therefore claim that they are designed to ‘guilt’ them out of having an abortion or fulfill a political agenda. Claim that educational materials are ‘anti-choice propaganda’ Some go as far as to claim that they were ‘harassed, intimidated, lied to, or that their private information was used against them.’
