  1. Course Snap-Shot – Situational Factors • Anatomy & Physiology II • Students have already taken Anatomy & Physiology I, but not necessarily with me. • Students are typically on the allied health track. • 72 students enrolled, divided into 3 sections of 24. • Each section is roughly on the same course schedule. • Lecture rooms contain 30 student desks OR are stadium lecture halls with 100-150 seats. • Lecture meets 2x/week, 80 min/day • Laboratory meets 1x/week for ~180 min.

  2. Castle Top Diagram – Blood Unit • Thursday - Laboratory • Blood Typing (30 min) Predicting outcomes worksheet (understanding; 20 min). Hypothesis testing/agglutination assay (analyzing; 30 min). • Predicting outcomes worksheet/Hypothesis testing (20 and 30 min, respectively). Tuesday - Lecture JIT – Mini-lecture on blood components (5-15 min). Mini-lecture on hemostasis (15 min). Group strip sequence worksheet (analyzing; 20 min). Individual illustration worksheet (creating; 10 min). Group predicting outcomes worksheet (analyzing; 20 min) Thursday – Lecture Review predicting outcomes worksheet from Tuesday (20 min). Clicker questions on pre-lecture reading with JIT teaching if necessary (5-10 min). Mini-lecture on agglutination (20 min). Group predictive outcomes worksheet (30 min) in-class activities Monday Reading assignment on blood components. BB Quiz to assess surface learning (applying, and remembering). Short essay homework assignment to get them to consider functional roles of blood components (evaluating) Wednesday BB quiz to reinforce Tuesday lecture material. Reading assignment on RBC antigens and antibodies. Friday - Sunday Reading assignment on cardiovascular system and BB quiz to asses. out-of-class activities Link to Example Questions for Summative Assessment
