  2. Possessive Nouns • Name who or what owns or has something. • Shows ownership or possession of things or qualities. • Can be common or proper nouns. • Can be singular or plural.

  3. Example • Rita has a book history. • Rita’s book is new. • Read the books. • Note the books’ major themes.

  4. How They’re Formed • First Way:Add an apostrophe at the end with an s (‘s)*This is true for all singular nouns and for plural nouns not ending in s.Ex: Rita’s book

  5. How Else They’re Formed • Second Way:If a noun already ends in s, you add only an apostrophe.Ex: books’ themes*Copy the chart on the next slide.
