  2. What is Staph MRSA? • Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus • MRSA is a strain of staph bacteria that becomes resistant to antibiotics that would normally cure staph infections.

  3. Types of Staph Infections • There are regular staph infections and MRSA infections which are resistant to some antibiotics • The MRSA infections come in two variants CA-MRSA and HA-MRSA • CA-MRSA being community associated and HA-MRSA being health care associated

  4. Causes and Symptoms • Staph bacteria is found in peoples mouth and in peoples noses but only on 25% of people it is found • People contract staph from open wounds on them and by which then the bacteria enters the wound and infects it • Staph can also be spread by skin to skin contact making it popular in various contact sports

  5. Symptoms Continued……...... • Staph can start out as looking like pimples or bug bites on your skin • If left untreated the infection will start to spread and affect bone, joints, surgical wounds, the bloodstream, and the heart and lungs • What the infection does is it burrows deep down into the body causing it to affect the list of things above

  6. What does a Staph Infection look like?

  7. How we cure MRSA infections • There are only two ways a doctor goes about treating a MRSA infection all depending on the situation • In the early stages of the infection they can cut open the abscess and let it drain • Usually they have to prescribe antibiotics to cure it but for MRSA they have to use antibiotics they wouldn’t normally use

  8. Curing MRSA infections • Sometimes to rid away MRSA they might have to surgical clean the infection also • Doctors have to be careful when prescribing antibiotics, it all depends on what stage the infection is at • They might have to lower the strength or increase it due to it being a MRSA infection
