  3. next home A Brief History of the Regions of France • Before the French Revolution of 1789, France was made up of about 30 provinces. • During the Revolution, the département, was created. • The purpose of départements was to break up the power of the old provinces and centralize authority. • There are currently 95 départements in France and 22 regions/provinces of France. • Each region has its own social & economic development plan and addresses the national government with its developmental issues. Be sure to include: important cities with a description of interesting sites & festivals, regional foods, traditional costumes (if any), important cultural/historical facts, etc. • Create a power point or prezi and prepare a presentation.
