  1. LOBO Solar Car Lobo Del Sol

  2. Team Mentor/Sponsor- Dr. Olga Lavrora • Team Members- • Kevin Benally • Kyle Decker • Orlando Gutierrez • Jesus Hernandez • Yun Pei

  3. Responsibility/ Roles • Orlando Gutierrez- Team Leader- Research, Makes sure things are getting done. Lays out what tasks needed to be completed. • Kevin Benally-Pawn - Research, Solar Array, Lights, Charging Circuit • Kyle Decker- Research, Any thing mechanical, such as making the steering better, designing the body, suspension, wheels. • Jesus Hernandez-Pawn - Research, Solar Array,Lights, Charging Circuit • Yun Pei- Research, Battery Management system.

  4. Project Description • The purpose of this project is to design, construct and test a vehicle that is self-sustaining and capable of running purely off of collected solar energy. The solar car must meet the requirements of the American Solar Car Challenge.

  5. Goal of the project • The project goal is to have the solar car ready to compete in the American Solar Car Challenge.

  6. American Solar Car Challenge • Scrutineering • July 6-9 @ Monticello Motor Club in Monticello, NY • Formula Sun Grand Prix • July 10-12 @ Monticello Motor Club in Monticello, NY • American Solar Challenge • July 14-21 from Rochester, NY to St. Paul, MN

  7. Requirements for ASC • Fuse, Horn, Brakes, Parking Brakes, Towing Hardpoint, • Batteries – • Li-Ion- weight 20kg • Solar Array- • 6.00 Sq. Meters • Dimensions- • 5 x 1.6 x 1.8 Meters • Driver- weight 80 kg, Helmet, Close toe shoes, ballast, can’t drive more than six hours.

  8. Why this is a good senior project? • This is a good senior project because it is a real engineering problem. • Touches on mechanical and electrical engineering aspects. • Design circuits. • Programming • Design the car to specifications

  9. Milestones • Body Design and Construction-December • Battery Management system-January. • Solar Array-February • Dashboard-April • Other Stuff: • Steering, brakes, wheels • Regenerative braking, dashboard, lights, wiring • Documentation

  10. Deliverables • Team Entry Form • Initial Fee • Proof of Insurance • Team Participation Agreement • Preliminary Vehicle Report • Track Fee • Vehicle Design Report • Road Fee • Team Photo • Team Data Sheet • Individual Participation Agreement • Emergency Information Form

  11. Challenges and Concerns • Batteries - making sure they don’t over charge. May lead to Explosion. • Solar Array- Maximizing the exposure to the sun.

  12. Tasks for the Next Month • Body Design and Construction. • E-brake • Regenerative braking
