Bellwork- Critical Reading Please read the short article you picked up “Researchers confirm Sado Island frog is a new species” (DO NOT WRITE) • Use the information in the article to determine, which frog is the new Sado-gaero frog species? • In your own words, what is a species? • Explain in 2-3 sentences what you would observe/test if you had to determine whether or not the two animals below are the same species?

  6. Critter Project Today you will be creating a critter that you will use for the rest of the year. It may be like nothing anyone has ever seen before, or it may be similar to something that exists today (or existed in the past). It may NOT be exactly like something from the past or present. It must be different enough to be its own species with its own unique set of adaptations.

  7. What is an adaptation? • A trait that improves an individual’s ability to survive and/or reproduce

  11. Bellwork • When is the final draft of your pill bug lab due? • When is your critter project due? • Which parts of the critter project do you still need to finish? (look at the requirements- pink sheet) • Where on the board can you find these due dates? • How can you get extra credit on the critter project? • What should you do in science class if you finish early?

  12. Today (p.3, p.4, p.6) • First priority- finish final draft of pill bug lab in notebook • If time- work on your critter You may listen to MP3 players. Voice level 1 or 2 as long as everyone is on task.

  13. Closure- in notebook Write a paragraph explaining what would happen if your critter’s environment suddenly became much warmer during the summers due to global warming. Think about: Which of your critter’s characteristics might make it difficult to survive in the warmer temperatures? Which of your critter’s adaptations would help it survive?
