Goals • Scientific Study of Politics • Facilitate critical thinking about literature • Help you identify interesting questions and design strategies about how to answer them • To provide writing and research skills to help facilitate your own research • Provide a basic background in statistics

  7. Books/Readings • Johnson & Reynolds- Political Research Methods • Shively- The Craft of Political Research • Other things either on class website or e-reserve • Complete readings by assigned class

  8. Assignments • 2 exams • 3 stats assignments • 2 Abstracts of Journal Articles • Research Design Project • Identify question • Do a lit review • Design a study

  9. Policies • Attendance/Participation • Grading • 100/90/80/70/60 • Late work penalized 10% per day • Assignments due in class at beginning • Grading not on curve • Must turn in all assignments and take final • No Incompletes

  10. Academic Integrity • Cheating is bad • Includes Plagiarism, inappropriate assistance, submitting same paper multiple times, etc. • Harsh Penalties • Will pursue • Put Honor Oath on all assignments • Proper assistance
