CREATED ON OCTOBER 1ST 2000 “ON AN EXPERIMENTAL LEVEL FOR ONE YEAR” UNDER THE HEADING “FOREIGN LANGUAGE OFFICE OF THE CARABINIERI” AND PLACED UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF THE CENTRAL COMMAND OF THE CARABINIERI SCHOOLS, IT HAS INHERITED:

  • FROM THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE CC - OFFICE OF TRAINING AND PROTOCOL

  • THE FOLLOWING DUTIES:

  • - PLANNING

  • - ORGANIZATION

  • - IMPLEMENTATION

  • OF ALL LINGUISTIC ACTIVITIES FOR THE CC BOTH NATIONALLY AND

  • INTERNATIONALLY

  • FROM THE ARMY FOREIGN LANGUAGE SCHOOL,

  • THE AUTHORITY TO

  • CERTIFY THE PROFICIENCY LEVEL IN THE FOREIGN LANGUAGES IN

    - PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION OF DEDICATED ACTIVITIES

    - ALPHABETIZATION IN ENGLISH OF SELECTED GROUPS OF

    PERSONNEL

    - SYSTEMATIC LEARNING PROGRESSION

    -MAINTAINING ACQUIRED LEVELS OF PROFICIENCY

    - GRADUAL EXPANSION OF TRAINED PERSONNEL

  • UNDERSTANDING INSTITUTIONAL REQUIREMENTS, STUDENTS NEEDS AND JOB DESCRIPTIONS,

  • GIVING OUR STUDENTS THE BASIC STRUCTURES (LEVEL 1 AND 2) THEN TEACHING THEM MORE COMPLEX STRUCTURES OF THE LANGUAGE (LEVEL 3 AND 4),

  • (PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE, WRITING MANUALS, WEBSITES..ETC),

  • EXPOSING OUR STUDENTS TO THE WAY THE LANGUAGE IS USED IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES (LEVELS OF FORMALITY AND INFORMALITY),

  • EXPOSING OUR STUDENTS TO THE DIFFERENCES IN THE LANGUAGE AND MEANING (E.G. SPELLING, PRONUNCIATION, ETC…).

HOW ARE WE DOING IT?(part three)

  • TEACHING OUR STUDENTS TO COMMUNICATE BY USING ENGLISH IN THE CLASSROOM (LEARN BY EXAMPLE);

  • USING TOPIC-BASED LESSON PLANS: I.E A LESSON ABOUT ARMS TRAFFICKING (TAKEN FROM “TOPIC-BASED LESSON PLANS FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL) INCLUDES: TEACHING USEFUL VOCABULARY, A READING EXERCISE, A DISCUSSION/DEBATE AND FINALLY A WRITTEN EXERCISE (REINFORCING WHAT The students have learned);

  • TEACHING THE STUDENTS THE VOCABULARY THEY NEED TO WRITE, A LESSON ON “REPORT WRITING FOR JOB-RELATED PURPOSES” TAKEN FROM “WRITING MANUAL FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL” INCLUDES: A SECTION DEDICATED TO LEARNING THE VOCABULARY, THE FORMAT, ONE OR TWO EXAMPLES AND FINALLY A WRITING TASK (REINFORCING WHAT THE STUDENTS HAVE Learned):


FUTURE PLANS

  • - CREATE STANDARD LESSON PLANS THAT CAN BE SHARED BY THOSE TEACHING WITH ALL THE ARMED FORCES ( INTERNET).

  • STRENGHTEN COLLABORATION WITH CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS OR LANGUAGE SCHOOLS;

  • - CONTINUAL PREPARATION OF BOOKLETS AND MATERIALS FOR COURSES AND TESTS PREPARED BY TEACHERS.
