  1. Map-Based Interactive Crime Data Exploitation Qiben Yan*, Kaiqun Fu*, Naser Hdieb† *Department of Computer Science, Virginia Tech, Falls Church, VA †Department of Civil Engineering, Virginia Tech, Falls Church, VA Implementation PROJECT INTRODUCTION • Crime patterns are important to predict future occurrences of offenses • Location related crimes (e.g. bar and bank) • Data mining techniques are powerful tools • Goal: advising Law enforcement and the public using association rules technique todiscover frequently occurring items in a database and presents the associations between events. • The occurrences of some crimes can also be related to specific facilities and specific time periods • For example, around Bank, the occurrence of theft or robbery can be common and frequent • Achievements: Implementation of an Integrated Data Mining Web application that can help identify crime patterns and extracting useful information • Data preprocessing: Data preprocessing is one key step in our project, since only with clean and appropriate data stored in format, can we complete our later association rules analysis researcher. The data preprocessing mainly contains two parts: • Filter out the incomplete data • Track obvious flaws in the data • Association Rules Dataset Generation is the heart of our research. Integration of the crime dataset and the facility dataset can generate one sufficient association rules dataset for later association rules analysis. • Data Interaction was mostly fulfilled by utilizing the Javascript APIs provided by some online resources, Ajax technology was applied to make the data and commands interaction between web-service possible: • jQuery APIs Javascript library • Extjs APIs Javascript library Visualization System Design Data analysis engine System architecture Layout Design Results Support Count Result Control Panel Tab (Facility & Association Rule) Confidence Result Ad Area Top Five Facilities Control Buttons Map Panel (Output) Support Count Result Confidence Result Top Five Crimes
